About shirakawagotours.com
This site is about one day out: a tour to the gassho-zukuri farmhouses of Shirakawa-go. Most visitors come from Kanazawa, Takayama or Nagoya, and the tours from these cities differ in two things that the titles rarely show. How long do you actually spend in the village, and where does the day end?
Who writes these pages
Patrick Kühne, an independent travel publisher in Markkleeberg near Leipzig, Germany, researches and writes the Shirakawa-go pages. He publishes a small group of guides to day tours and attraction tickets, each limited to one place; this one is limited to Shirakawa-go and the tours that combine it with Takayama, Gokayama or Kanazawa.
What we record for every tour
For each tour we read the operator’s itinerary and note where it starts, where it ends, the minutes it spends in Shirakawa-go, the other places on the day and the size of the vehicle. On private tours we note whether the person at the wheel is also the guide. Where the itinerary says nothing, the fact sheet says “Not stated” rather than a guess, and where reviewers describe something different from the listing, we say so.
How the site earns money
The booking links lead to GetYourGuide, and for a few private tours to Viator. When you book through one of them, the platform pays shirakawagotours.com a commission and the tour costs you the same. The tables are sorted by number of reviews; an operator cannot pay for a better place.
Where the village rules come from
Light-up dates, the reservation rules and the village map follow the Shirakawa-go Tourist Association, the light-up bus courses of Nohi Bus and reports on the 2027 booking rounds. The bus parking reservation from December 2026 follows Japanese travel trade press. All of this was last checked in November 2026; prices, ratings and review counts load automatically from the booking platforms.
What this site cannot do
We do not run tours and cannot sell light-up tickets, parking reservations or rooms in the village. Meeting times, stops and cancellation rules are set by the operator, and your booking confirmation is what counts on the day.
